1 No Need for Discussions!

A beautiful spring day in the countryside of Japan, on the planet Earth, the cherry blossoms flying. Teenager TENCHI MASAKI leaves home for his daily commute to school, dressed in his black school uniform, briefcase slung over his shoulder. He thinks he hears a woman's voice -- and the sees a strange furry creature superimposed upon a local cat. He remembers; it all started one day...

Two spaceships battle in near-Earth space. Damaged, they fall from orbit, and a younger Tenchi (returning from school) rushes off to investigate the nearer smoking crash site. He finds a beautiful woman with sea-green hair passed out amid the spiky, black-crystal debris. Cupping some water from a nearby stream, he wakes her, asks if she's hurt, introduces himself. RYOKO claims she's being chased by a space pirate. They hear a heavy footstep -- and an imposing suit of blue power armor exits the trees behind them. "Oh, I'm so scared!" she says, clinging to him. "Please, I beg you to save me!" The suit opens fire.

Nearby, Tenchi's widower father NOBUYUKI is climbing the stairs to the hilltop MASAKI SHRINE presided over by his father-in-law KATSUHITO. "Long-distance commuting is fine," he puffs, "but this is ridiculous." He hears distant explosions in the forest.

Ryoko and Tenchi reach a precipice, cornered, and he tries to negotiate with the power armor, the setting sun behind them. "This is our destiny," says Ryoko, embracing him tightly. "We promised to die together, remember?" "I don't remember making that promise," Tenchi protests, as the armor approaches -- and trips over a discarded Coke can. Like a turtle, it can't right itself. Tenchi takes the opportunity to leave, but sees Ryoko hold back and (displaying surprising strength) kick the armor over the cliff.

At the Masaki home, Tenchi's father is cooking dinner, and Katsuhito grouses that Tenchi is late. "Then he must be off picking up girls," laughs Nobuyuki. "No, he doesn't take after you." There's the sound of the front door sliding open, and heavy gasping. Dad walks to the foyer, and is shocked to see Ryoko.

At the table, Ryoko explains: she was attacked by a savage pirate while travelling, and fell to Earth. Bowled over by her charm, Nobuyuki takes her hand -- Tenchi protests: you believe that story? "I find her story much more believable than you picking up such a beautiful girl," he answers. "It must be very cold in outer space this time of year," says Katsuhito calmly, and offers her some tea. Nobuyuki promises to protect her, and she gratefully calls him father. "Tenchi, you've got a wonderful bride," he says to his shocked son. Grampa just nods.

Outside in the night, the blue armor scans the house.

Later, at his father's orders, Tenchi is nailing plywood panels over the first-story windows, and protests that it might work against typhoons -- but not space pirates! Grampa returns to the shrine. The wind blows and Ryoko grabs Tenchi, frightened.

Inside, in Tenchi's bedroom, Ryoko plays a videogram while Tenchi tries to study. Distracted, he gets up to leave, but she grabs him from the floor; he can't leave her alone! She stands and nuzzles him. The doorbell rings, and Tenchi goes to the front door: it's the armor. "Gah!" He slams the panel shut. "Ryoko, it's for you!"

The armor crashes through, jets up the stairs after them (all while Dad continues to snooze), then follows them out the second-story window above the pantry shed. Tenchi leads Ryoko out the gate, up the stairs to the shrine. Disturbed, Katsuhito opens his door, and sees the confrontation in the shrine yard. "Hmmm. What a nuisance." He pulls his sword, tells the pair to leave it to him. With a single cut -- boom! The prone suit vanishes in a puff of smoke, leaving its operator in the same position on the gravel.

From her undignified position, the pretty blonde girl in the black-and-orange jumpsuit introduces herself as FIRST CLASS DETECTIVE MIHOSHI of the GALAXY POLICE, here to arrest the wanted space pirate Ryoko. "She's lying," insists Ryoko to the men. "Do I look like an infamous criminal?" Searching for proof in her suit, Mihoshi quickly loses her composure and turns ditzy. She stands up, and holds out a pen. A flexible screen unfolds, displaying her GP ID; the image then changes to Ryoko's wanted poster.

Ryoko's mood changes like a switch. Mihoshi draws her sidearm -- and the pirate easily deflects the blasts with a spherical forcefield. "You're hunting big game now," she smiles evilly, and gathers destructive orange energy to her hands. Mihoshi and Tenchi run, down the stairs, back to the house, pursued all the way by a flying Ryoko. "You're a cop, aren't you?" Back up the stairs, and out the window. "Yes, but I'm - SCARED!" she says, injuring her ankle from the leap. "And now you die," sneers Ryoko, drifting down from the roof. Defiant, Tenchi grabs a garden hoe from the shed, and holds it like a sword.

Taken aback, Ryoko lets her energies dissipate, and folds her arms behind her neck. "That was fun. I was never really gonna hurt you guys," she says. "So - you're gonna surrender?" asks the cop. She pulls her pen, begins reading her rights -- and Ryoko zaps it. She tries to continue from memory, but flustered, falls to her knees in tears. The pirate turns to Tenchi: "I think I'll do you a favor and stay here awhile," and moving closer to whisper in his ear: "You were so valiant and brave when you saved me."

The next morning, all five are seated at breakfast. Ryoko expresses how much fun she had last night, and Mihoshi is in love with the pickles (Katsuhito's late wife's recipe). Suddenly, she starts sobbing: her ship is destroyed, and she has no way to get home or contact the GP. "Too bad," says the pirate, "Especially now that I've decided to surrender." The cop can't recall what GP federal law says about this situation, and asks to stay. Grampa agrees, and Dad laughs.

Later, while Tenchi is repairing the shed, Ryoko (in her blue-and-yellow cat tail dress) drifts in. He begins to protest her gall -- but she puts a finger to his lips, stopping him.

2 No Need for a Princess

Promo: (Tenchi) The carnival has now begun. In the next episode, yet another girl arrives from outer space with the grandest flair. She is a real princess, known throughout the universe. The problem is Ryoko, who seems to have something against her, and the feeling is mutual. With one little conflict leading to another, we're in a grand space battle before we know it. The next episode: No Need for Princesses. A roman holiday for a princess. (Ryoko) It's undisputable fun.

Location: somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. With a flash, the royal starship of FIRST PRINCESS AEKA OF JYURAI, _RYUOH_, materializes from FTL transit. Onboard, in the sylvan command chamber (for all Jyuraian technology is based on trees and wood), her two guardians (imposing wooden cylinders with cyclopean glass eyes: AZAKA blue, KAMIDAKE red) inquire of her thoughts. This latest marriage meeting has exhausted her, and as soon as she arrives back on planet Jyurai to rest, she'll have to leave for another.

On Earth, at the family shrine, Tenchi is sweeping the courtyard, distracted by a playful Ryoko. Seated on the shrine steps, Mihoshi fiddles with her pink GP UTILITY CUBE until it starts emitting a distress signal -- then breaks down in tears when she remembers the statistics for summoning help -- about once every 200 years. "We're in the boonies, kid," Ryoko sympathizes.

Aboard _Ryuoh_, Aeka receives the distress signal, and since there's still time before her scheduled rendezvous with her sister SASAMI, she diverts.

The huge wooden ship, resembling a Viking longboat, appears over the shrine. It soft-lands in the nearby lake, and the trio rush to the shore. "Uh oh," says Ryoko; the ship looks awfully familiar. A glowing green sphere rises from the ship to the shore, and fades to reveal Aeka and her guardians. "You! It can't be!" she says, shocked to see Ryoko, and completely ignoring Mihoshi and Tenchi. "Those Galaxy Police have become so incompetent these days!"

In the house, Mihoshi and Tenchi scold Ryoko for her behavior. Ryoko relates a sad tale of how, as a young, innocent child, she found a meadow full of flowers, and was happy -- until the selfish young princess Aeka came by and ordered her off the royal planet, stealing her flower garland with the words "every single thing that's here belongs to Royal Me!" Tearfully moved, Mihoshi ascribes all the pirate's later delinquent behavior to this.

In his study, serving tea, Katsuhito asks Aeka about her homeworld -- its mountains, its valleys, its people and plants. Tenchi arrives with a tray of teacakes, and Grampa suggests he show Aeka around; this planet has its own charm. "Whatever luck brought you to this planet, you should try to relax." They go down to a pond in which is rooted a thriving tree, a Shinto charm wrapped around its trunk. She comments how lovely this all is -- though it's all ordinary to Tenchi. She stumbles over a stepping stone, and falls against him; they stare at each other, then pull apart, embarrassed. He leads her off the pond, then back to the dramatic precipice, where they're surrounded with autumn foliage. Overcome with emotion, she starts to cry; when asked, she admits the Katsuhito was probably right, and this is the most perfect day off for her.

(Meanwhile, at the house, Ryoko wonders where Tenchi went -- and realizes with growing anger that he must be with the princess.)

Returning to the lake, they encounter an angry Ryoko (and a cringing Mihoshi). "How dare you flirt with Tenchi!" the pirate accuses, which Aeka denies. The princess counters that Ryoko is bad through and through. "Yeah, well, she's not my favorite alien," grumbles Tenchi, looking askance. The two come near to blows, and are pulled apart. While Ryoko struggles in Mihoshi's grasp, Aeka relates *her* side of their first meeting. While playing in the flowers, young-Aeka has her garland stolen by young-Ryoko, who prances off with a sneering "so long, sucker!"

Tenchi asks Aeka to calm down, and Ryoko grabs him. (He squirms.) "What are you so upset about?" she says to the seething princess. "You said you weren't flirting with him, right?" For the sake of universal peace, Aeka swears to finish off Ryoko -- and to fight for Tenchi's hand. "Please," Mihoshi begs the princess, "couldn't you fight *after* you rescue me?"; she's so incensed she doesn't even notice the cop clinging to her ankles as her green bubble carries her back aboard _Ryuoh_.

Ryoko summons her own ship, _RYO-OHKI_, and the spiky mass of black crystal and grey stone streaks overhead (with a loud "meow!"). It emits a red beam which transports the pirate -- and an unwilling Tenchi -- aboard the carnelian command dome. Ryoko opens a commscreen to Aeka's bridge: "This will be a fight to the death!" ("The problem won't be solved with violence!" sobs Mihoshi, still glued to Aeka's skirt.)

The two ships ascend rapidly to orbit, and start exchanging fire. Aeka finally notices Mihoshi, and more particularly, Tenchi aboard the other ship. "We have taken a vow to die together," proclaims Ryoko. Aeka is so despondent at the news ("WHAT VOW?" Tenchi yells, unheard) that she rams _Ryuoh_ into _Ryo-Ohki_, pushing them into a crash dive. "All three of us will perish together!" she proclaims nobly. They slam into the lake. The sun sets.

The night, in the Masaki living room: Katsuhito, Nobuyuki, Tenchi, Ryoko and Mihoshi. Dad turns to the guardian cylinders, who express their appreciation. "Great, more freeloaders," grumps Ryoko, who points out that her _Ryo-Ohki_ was destroyed too. "I told you to fight *after* saving me!" wails Mihoshi. Where's Aeka? Up in her room, still in shock.

Tenchi takes a tray of dinner up to her bedroom, where the princess is hiding under a blanket. When she doesn't respond, he leaves the food. /I guess I can take an extended vacation,/ she thinks, smiling.

3 No Need for Worries

Promo: (Tenchi) Tenchi Muyo, the next and the fifth in line to join our family is Sasami, Aeka's little sister. This brave little girl has traveled far to Earth in search of her missing sister Aeka. Huh? What is this catlike creature? What, Ryo-ohki? But I thought Ryo-ohki was the name of Ryoko's spaceship? No need for worries is coming next. (Ryoko) She's undisputably cute!

4 No Need for a Monster

5 No Need for Partners

Act 1

Somewhere in space, aboard her red-painted GP patrol ship _YAGAMI_, DETECTIVE FIRST CLASS KIYONE awakes. Brushing aside her main of dark green hair, she looks at the black-bordered photo of her late partner Mihoshi; it's been a month since her death. "You were always such a burden to me," she thinks. "But now, I will never see you again. And that knowledge makes me so HAPPY!"

Dressed, she enters _Yagami's_ flight deck, and receives a message from her SECTION CHIEF at GPHQ. What, Mihoshi's alive? Well, the post in the Solar system has been vacant, so her disappearance hasn't actually been followed up, and Kiyone is ordered to search for her. Screen off, she collapses in her seat, sobbing in frustration. "Please, PLEASE let Mihoshi not be alive!" she prays.

[Shot of windows on back of the house.] On Earth, it's just another quiet day, and Mihoshi relaxes. The peaceful atmosphere makes her sleepy, and she passes out on the veranda.

Inside, strange lightning arcs from a first-floor bathroom. Nobuyuki and Tenchi enter -- and are shocked to discover a huge and ornate bathing spa (as per Japanese custom) somehow crammed inside the room. Genius scientist WASHU explains that she was asked to remodel the interior. "Enough with creating different dimensions all over the house!" Tenchi says. His dad thinks it will bring the family closer together -- but this is the *women's* bath, the scientist explains, and cheerfully pushes them out to the unmodified second bathroom and its tub.

Meanwhile, Kiyone prowls through the woods, scanning with her pink utility cube. She approaches the house and meets Tenchi, who's grumbling that *he* always does all the chores. She shows him a photo of Mihoshi: have you ever seen this woman? "Yes," he answers, to her great upset. He points to the veranda. Kiyone almost dies.

Later, in the kitchen, Aeka and Ryoko are shring a brief moment of civility, refreshed from their bath. In the living room, Grampa brings tea, while Mihoshi hugs her partner. "Finding her alive makes me so mad," says Kiyone. "I mean - *glad*." "We have a special chemistry between us," Mihoshi adds.

She introduces Tenchi, Nobuyuki and Katsuhito, then Ryoko. Kiyone stands up in shock: the pirate! Then Aeka enters. More shock: the missing princess. *And* the other missing princess Sasami, *and* the long-imprisoned "legendary mad scientist" Washu. She falls over. "She have to make such a big deal of everything?" asks Ryoko. "I have to say, I think her reaction is quite normal," replies Tenchi. The officer gets up, draws her gun, and tells Ryoko she's under arrest...

Act 2

They're all having lunch. The compliment the cook, Sasami. Grampa hands Mihoshi a plate. Happy laughter. Kiyone suddenly stands up from her plate. "What happened to the scene I was just in? Why are we eating lunch?" she says, again drawing her sidearm. "Hold on a minute," says Ryoko, gobbling her food, "I'm in the middle of eating here." Mihoshi defends the pirate's character: just the other day, she gave her the bigger rice ball. Aeka flatters the officer, and offers to help her arrest Ryoko; but the pirate sees right through her motivation. She finishes her tea, and the three step outside.

Kiyone fires, and Ryoko deftly dodges with midair swoops and teleports. She fires in return, and the cop roll-evades the crates. Tenchi, Sasami and Washu watch. Kiyone tugs her left earing, and _Yagami_ drops from the cloud deck; her red power suit deploys. Mihoshi dons it, but promptly loses control and lands in the lake; then emerges and flies off. Kiyone catches the pirate in a lasso of yo-yo energy-string, but she breaks free. She materializes a beam-sword, and plunges toward the cop -- but is suddenly caught in a magical forcefield projected by the two guardian cylinders. Aeka, on the sidelines till now, orders her held tightly. Below, Sasami promises to visit Ryoko in jail; and Tenchi will write. Kiyone begins to recite (from memory) Ryoko's rights under GP regulation 2546 amendment 973 -- but then Mihoshi returns, crashes, and frees the criminal.

Later, in the bath, Kiyone relates her sob story to Washu, Aeka and Ryoko. Her career was advancing so smoothly until they made Mihoshi her partner -- then she was demoted and assigned to a remote beat, losing all chance of promotion. She sinks beneath the surface, bubbling. Meanwhile, said partner snoozes on the porch.

That night, the two officers stand in uniform by _Yagami_ (parked in the lake), ready to depart. Kiyone tells the princess she's contacted Jyurai, and informed them of her vacation. They move off -- then Mihoshi returns, bows and thanks them formally. [Panned group shot.] Grampa gives her a package of riceballs. [Group profile.] She waves farewell as she runs off.

On the flight deck, before they launch, they receive an ultraspace communication from the Section Chief. Kiyone salutes. They don't have to head back: they've just received an appointment from the Chief of the GP: they're now assigned to Earth as officers in charge of the Solar system area. (The Personnel Section chief was very happy to find such qualified oficers.) He signs off. Mihoshi is ecstatic, and Kiyone despondent. "It's over. This is it. My career is down the toilet."

6 No Need for Resident Officers

Promo: (Tenchi) In our next episode, Mihoshi and Kiyone settle down as roommates in a tiny studio apartment in an old building facing west. (Mihoshi) We'll be fried in this afternoon sun! (Tenchi) Even though the rent they share is as low as it could be, they now have to work day and night on part-time jobs to keep up with the high cost of living on Earth; and whenever they receive a duty call, fly out to space in _Yagami_. Hang on, resident officers of the solar system. Coming up next, it's No Need for Resident Officers. (Kiyone) It's unquestionably pathetic.

Act 0

On the train, Kiyone resignedly asks Mihoshi, "What are we going to do if you get fired again?" They've been forced to take part-time jobs.

Act 1

Tenchi leaves the house for school. Aeka and Sasami clear the table; Aeka's miffed that Ryoko's watching cartoons. Sasami wonders what the two officers are up to.

Kiyone is at a city construction site, wearing a hardhat and waving into place a truck full of pipes. /I graduated second in my class!/ she self-pities. There's a crash; two trucks have collided, thanks to Mihoshi. /What did I do wrong?/ she wonders. Later, at the lunch hour, Kiyone's eyes stream as she stares at her packed lunch (580 yen).

They're shopping at a convenience store, and Mihoshi apologizes; Kiyone (looking for a hot pad) reminds her to hurry or they'll be late for their next job. Mihoshi wants snacks; her partner growls, but relents -- until the blonde dumps a whole pile into the basket.

As cashiers at a fast food place, Kiyone has to stop Mihoshi from babbling off the entire menu. She turns to her next customer, who wants a teriyaki sandwich and Coke; she suggests the combo. Her partner tries to emulate the sales technique, but scrambles the description. Later, they carry trays tot he customers -- and the blonde trips. "No you again!" blurts the manager. Kiyone apologizes, but her wristcomm chimes (signalling a GP job), and she asks to leave early. "Again?" [The sign reads 7:00am-10:00pm]

_Yagami_ launches to respond to a call near Jupiter. Kiyone's in her GP uniform, but Mihoshi is still dressed in the pink waitressing skirt. It's an old lady whose ship has broken down; Kiyone fixes the engine. [Ship has Yamato styling]

Act 2

Sunset over the city. Mihoshi is stretched out across their apartment while Kiyone lies collapsed over the table, exhausted. She wearily answers the doorbell: it's the gang (Tenchi, the four girls, and Ryo-ohki), and they've brought food. While Mihoshi stows the futons to make room, Washu promptly dubs the apartment "Mihokiyo's Place". "Sounds like some sort of goofy comedy team," says Mihoshi innocently.

Aeka asks about their jobs; with the recession, they're not easy to find. Aeka and Ryoko come to blows over the last cookie. "Aren't we behaving a wee bit glutinous for the princess of Jyurai?" She grabs Tenchi, and notes exactly how many crackers, potato chips and chocolate puffs Aeka's been eating lately. "Lies, lies, it's not true!" shrills Aeka, her face red. Her protective wooden rods materialize, filling the apartment; she accuses Ryoko of selfishness. The two officers beg them to take the fight outside, to no avail. The pirate's blast stops at the edge of Aeka's shield, builds up -- and the apartment explodes. Washu, hovering calmly and unscathed in her own bubble, gets the last cookie.

That night, at the public bath, the officers relax in the furo. On the way home, Mihoshi begs to go to the karaoke place again; but Kiyone insists their budget is too tight. They end up there anyway, and join in a duet:

M: I was so naive, not to know that looks can deceive. The first sight of you made my heart jump, a good-looking young man. That's how he looked to my eyes, but it lasted only a while. And in the middle of our kiss I saw his hairpiece come off.

K: You should have known better my friend, no matter [...] should tell you for sure if it's fake or not.

M: But it's okay now; I don't mind it anymore.

MK: I let you deceive me because I'm in love with you. Hey!

"Aren't you glad we came?" asks Mihoshi. Their time almost up, and the blonde wants just a little bit more. "Absolutely not!" insists Kiyone -- and her partner slyly intimates that it's really *her* who's hooked on it. Their wrists chime, and they run out without paying.

In space, Kiyone self-flagellates; they really shouldn't get hooked on karaoke to the detriment of their duties. They reach Saturn -- and K notices M is still holding the cordless mic. It's a fend-bender between a taxi and a truck. Listening to the accusations, K's stylus breaks in frustration.

Back at the apartment, Kiyone steps through their budget, and supposes they'll just have to get another job. There's newspaper over the shattered windows; the train crossing bell rings outside, and the train goes past. She sits up in her futon and looks at her partner. /At least somebody's carefree/ she thinks. "Let's sing one more together, Kiyone," Mihoshi mutters in her sleep.

7 No Need for (a) Carnival

Promo: (Tenchi) It is time for Masaki Shrine to celebrate harvest. C'mon Sasami, let's go have fun. (Sasami) Hooray! We're going to the fair! (Tenchi) Everyone is setting up booths at the fair. Ryoko has a booth for goldfish scooping, and Aeka for target-shooting, and a fun house run by Washuu. One thing's for sure, it won't be an uneventful day. Coming up next, no need for a fair; a carnival that never ends. (Sasami) It's unquestionably eventful!

Abstract: Tenchi takes Sasami to her first festival. Goldfish catch. Aeka is running a shooting gallery where the targets are tiny dolls of Ryoko -- then gets carried away shooting them herself. Ryoko also has a fish-catching pond -- but it's dimensionally transcendental and full of bizarre giant alien fish. Closed down, she splits in two and is her own shill to sell snake oil (well, alien toad sweat) until Tenchi scolds her. She sets up a rival shooting gallery beside Aeka, and the two argue over how they first met at another carnival, on Jyurai; Aeka recalls Ryoko stealing her wallet, vs. bossy Aeka overturning her wares. Kiyone and Mihoshi have a friend noodle stand, except Mihoshi can't chop cabbage and Ryo-ohki eats all the carrots. Then they try a cotton candy stand, but Washu's ultra-high-speed candy machine floods the festival grounds. Washu's haunted house, interdimensional danger.

She appears, shows him latest invention: Mecha-Washu. Sealed off 700 years, so way behind on inventions, and just as capable, so can work just as fast. Left: input mind data. Mihoshi lets herself in. Excess energy from pseudospace to duplicate recorded mind data. She steps into tube, but hair caught. Tenchi reaches for controls, then Mihoshi. Boom! Singed Washu, but undamaged MW steps up.

9 No Need for Memories

Promo: (Sasami) Heehee, it's snowing, come out and see it quickly, Ryo-ohki! (Ryoko) Brrrr, it's freezing today. Oh, a day like this is perfect for having hot tea. (Sasami) Heehee. Ryoko is glued to the heater. (Tenchi) One morning, as snow falls silently, the long-forgotten memories come back to us. Coming up next, there's no need for memories. Yes, I remember, it was snowing like this on that day. (Ryoko) It's unquestionably melancholic.

10 No Need for an Arch Rival

Abstract: The feared bounty hunter NAGI inquires in spaceport bars as to the location of her quarry, Ryoko, the only person to ever survive an encounter with her. Nagi traces Ryoko to the backwater planet Earth, and captures Tenchi, whom she's been told "is Ryoko's man". Her spaceship-cabbit, KEN-OHKI, investigates the house, and learns to like carrots and Ryo-Ohki. Nagi challenges Ryoko to a duel with Tenchi as the prize, at Venus. The ships refuse to fire on each other. Washu creates a domed Wild West-style town for their showdown. Nagi catches Ryoko's neck in an energy lariat, but is distracted when Aeka tries to free Tenchi from a coffin. Her blast ricochets from Aeka's wood-shield, freeing Ryoko, who defeats Nagi. Nagi honorably departs.

11 Time and Space Adventures, pt.1

Promo: (Washu) Well, thank you all for waiting. Now we'll present Tenchi's special events with utmost confidence and success. (Tenchi) The dimensional controller invented by Washu goes totally out of control. Blasted into random time and space, our destiny is blowing in the wind. (Ryoko) The wheel of fortune is ever in motion; it's a stupendously fantastic story. (Tenchi) Coming next is Journey through Time and Space part one. (Aeka) It's unquestionably fantastic.

Abstract: Washu creates a DIMENSION TUNER, a device able to create a universe to your specifications. (Her tests affect the dimensional bath house and men's washroom, cause Tenchi to appear amid the girls and Nobuyuki in the kitchen sink.) In the middle of the night, Ryoko sneaks to the lab -- and is confronted by Aeka, Sasami, Mihoshi and Kiyone. They vye for the control panel -- two girls want Tenchi, Mihoshi wants to be with Kiyone forever, and her partner wants just the opposite. Washu arrives just as everything goes haywire, and warns them they'll all be drifting through time and space until she can repair the device.

Abstract: In Aeka's Edo-era world, she's nobility, engaged to Lord Tenchi, who has been sent by the emperor to capture the demon of Rashomon. Fearing for her intended, Aeka dispatches detectives Kiyone and Mihoshi, who discover Tenchi is Ryoko's secret boyfriend. Fearing for her job, Kiyone keeps quiet, but Mihoshi casually blabs it to Aeka over tea.

12 Time and Space Adventures, pt.2

Jugum jugum go go lotion reeky raise! Sammy Davis Junior boiled chicken! (Tenchi) But what is the true identity of Pretty Sammy? Coming next is Journey through Time and Space part two. (Sasami) It's unquestionably glamorous!

13 Time and Space Adventures, pt.3

Abstract: Tenchi married to Mihoshi, daughter Sasami, pet Ryo-ohki. Tenchi's unmarried sister Aeka stays with them, lords it over Mihoshi, who complains to college bud Kiyone. Neighbor Ryoko repeatedly tries to steal Tenchi.

Abstract: Gangster Ryoko kidnaps Tenchi Mazursky, grandson of Rev.Mazursky (Yoshou), fiance to Aeka Jyurai (heiress to the Jyurai Financial Group), forces him to aid in bank heists, east to west (incl Chicago?, Las Vegas, San Francisco). FBI agents Mihoshi Grammy and Kiyone Mackenzie. Washu arrives with dimension tuner and needs Ryoko to denounce this, her ideal world.

14 No Need for a Rebellion

Visiting the sapling that is the regenerating _Ryuoh_, Aeka's treeship, reflect that it's about three months since Aeka and Ryoko each arrived on Earth. Kiyone is ecstatic that she's been promoted and transferred off the planet; but Mihoshi hasn't been, and she's devasted.

A Jyuraian battleship arrives and snatches away the Masaki household and its occupants; Tenchi arrives from school and meets his grandfather, who'd been tending the shrine. A pod drops from the sky, disgorging Mihoshi, Kyone, Washu and Mr.Masaki (along with miniaturized Azaka and Kamidake, and a miniaturized-and-flattened house).

It seems Aeka and Sasami have been arrested for treason (and when she arrogantly identified herself, Ryoko as well). Ryoko unsuccessfully attempts telepathic communication with Ryo-ohki (Washu later explains that the cell is shielded).

Kiyone pilots _Yagami_ near the battleship, and requests transfer of the prisoners, since they're in her jurisdiction. It's a ruse to get close enough to use Washu's new short-range subspace door, with a limited 800-meter range.

[The line "3400 hours" by a Jyuraian officer implies Jyurai has a very long day, or hours that don't have 60 minutes.]

15 No Need for an Escape

Abstract: _Yagami_ returns to GP HQ. Kiyone is depressed to learn from a friend, MITSUKI, that all her classmates have been promoted to better things. She reports to her superior, and is confronted by an agent of Jyuraian intelligence who suspects she knows more than is in her official report. Later, two squads of GP surround her in the corridor, but Mihoshi rescues her (boarding tube punching through the station hull) and they rush off to save Ryo-Ohki from a GP armada.

Act 0

Flashbacks: Yoshou ascends to the throne, Aeka's arrest, their rescue, Ryo-ohki's escape from the battleship.

Act 1

Aboard _Yagami_, Mihoshi wonders if the others managed to escape. Kiyone hopes so; but they're being pursued by the military of Jyurai. Mihoshi echoes her thoughts, and wonders, what happened on Aeka's homeworld? Maybe they can find out at HQ, and Kiyone sets course.

They dock at the sprawling space station, so full of life, Kiyone so glad to be back. She sends Mihoshi off to the cafeteria, and heads off to report to the Detective-Sergeant. In the corridor, she runs into a classmate, red-haired MITSUKI. The trade compliments. "Since you were demoted to such a remote area, well, we all thought that was the end of your career." Mitsuki doesn't notice the agony on Kiyone's face as she goes on to describe the successes of their other friends -- Nuwasi, Achi (now marshall of the Sirius Branch). Mitsuki herself is in Special Investigations -- and you? Investigative Unit 9 -- minor incidentals. "Good for you, kid; you'll have a lot of time to relax," laughs Mitsuki, wandering off. Kiyone kicks an inoffensive trash bin to scrap.

She reports to the Detective-Sergeant, whose back is to the door, watching a mountain forest scene projected on the wall of his vast office. "We've been waiting for you," says a second voice, and she sees a man in a high-backed armchair. The DS points out that she spent a lot of time with Princess Aeka on Earth -- does she have any idea of her whereabouts? Kiyone decides the man must be from the Jyuraian Embassay -- or its intelligence bureau.

In the cafeteria, Mihoshi sees an emergency news broadcast.

It's also viewed aboard Ryo-Ohki. The new emperor has been officially approved by the planetary council. Aeka shakes with rage, and the others shush her. Then his name is reported, it's a shock to her: YOSHOU.

The same man is being discussed in the DS's office; Kiyone's not familiar with the name. The agent rises from the chair. Yoshou is indeed the legitimate successor, a legendary warrior; long-gone but he has now returned.

Aeka sobs in disbelief, at this name heard so many times since childhood. At Ryoko's inquiry, she explains that he was said to be the best swordsman in the empire, gifted with intelligence and courage; but he abdicated his position as successor and disappeared -- many decades ago. Why would he step forward *now*? Ryoko thinks he's a fake, but Washu points out he has to at least be a member of the royal family -- because of Jyurai's Power, Aeka finishes.

The agent explains to Kiyone: without a demo of "this awesome power", the council wouldn't have approved Yoshou's succession. He witnessed it himself.

The news continues: dissatisfied with Yoshou's enthronement, the Princess Aeka attempted a coup, and is now on the run. This is all very amusing to Ryoko -- until her face appears as an accomplice. Pictures of the two are flashed together. "Look, just by standing next to you, even I look like a criminal!" the princess complains. The other five (Washu, Sasami, Katsuhito, Nobuyuki and Tenchi) are also cited.

Mihoshi finishes slurping her noodles, and goes off to find Kiyone.

Act 2

Kiyone rides a glass-walled elevator through the station, and stares at the planet below as she thinks: Aeka's obviously being framed, and the agent had been very insistent about finding her. The elevator opens into a corridor; she knows she must act with caution. She doesn't find Mihoshi in the cafeteria.

The agent and DS talk: Officer Kiyone honestly didn't know Aeka's location, but it would be wise to keep an eye on her. He reminds the DS of their agreement: that she be turned over as soon as Aeka falls into the GP's trap. He turns and -- eek! Officer Mihoshi is standing there -- for how long? "I didn't hear you talk about Yoshou or anything about Aeka either," she lies. "Sorry to bother you, okay, so long!" and she giggle-exits. Who was that, the agent asks, and the DS looks her up: Kiyone's partner. The agent orders their immediate capture.

Alarms go off in Kiyone's corridor and across the station. She breaks into a run and is followed by a camera. Suddenly, an entire squad of GP cut her off at a cross-corridor: she turns, and there's a second squad. Mitsuki steps out, in command. "You should've come to me," she gloats, "Unless it was money problems." She orders her to drop her weapons; Kiyone pulls out her sidearm and yo-yo (up her right sleeve). Suddenly, _Yagami's_ boarding tube crashes through the bulkhead. Kiyone scrambles up and it retracts; the corridor starts to vent, and an emergency shutter closes just before Mitsuki's blown out. Weapons deploy across the station and fire after _Yagami_; the agent watches it on video.

Aboard Ryo-Ohki, Ryoko and Aeka argue that "you have an uncanny way of attracting trouble!" Tenchi urges them to stop. Nobuyuki is depressed, and Sasami turns to Washu. Calmly, Katsuhito says they must return to Jyurai: he doesn't know who this Yoshou is, but they have no other way to prove their innocence. Suddenly Ryo-Ohki reports an oncoming GP fleet.

Kiyone berates Mihoshi: this is all your fault! Their commscanner lights up: all patrolling ships are alerted to the suspect, spotted in Space Zone 247.

Ryo-Ohki takes hits, evades, but is running low on power. Ryoko brings up viewscreens all around the dome: they're surrounded. She heads for the thickest part of the fleet, and they're about to collide, when -- BOOM! A series of flares ignites, distracting that entire segment. Mihoshi calls from _Yagami_ and warns them; they fire a second polyflare missile, and escape together.

On the flagship of the Jyuraian fleet, the ADMIRAL addresses his commanders on a circle of screens around the bridge. Most of the rival claimants to the throne have been captured, but their efforts will be in vain if Aeka, first successor, escapes. This is a direct order from Yoshou. "Long live the emperor of Jyurai!" they chorus.

Aboard _Yagami_, the news reports that the rebellion has been joined by First Class GP Detectives Kiyone and Mihoshi. "I lose my promotion, and I also have to be on the run. I am the most wanted criminal in the universe," she glums. Her partner tells her to cheer up; they're all together again, and they'll be okay when they get to Jyurai. Kiyone looks at her, half-fondly. "Mihoshi, you really are my bad luck charm."

Aft of the flight deck, Sasami fans the exhausted Ryo-Ohki. Ryoko is drinking bottles of "tea". Argument breaks out, and Mihoshi can't stop it. "My life's a mess!" moans Kiyone.

16 No Need for Hiding

Promo: (Katsuhito) Even the goddess of justice, who is supposed to be fair and just, can be blinded sometimes. Marked by conspiracy as a wanted criminal, Princess Aeka heads home for planet Jyurai. While on the run she has to disguise herself as a bar owner, scamming customers to survive day by day. (Tenchi) Coming up next is no need for hiding. Gee, I really wonder if we should be doing this. (Aeka) It's unquestionably sensational.

Act 0

A legend of an imperial son is told on the planet Jyurai, handed down for generations. He was the best swordsman ever seen, with unmatched mastery of Jyurai's Power. He was compassionate and affectionate; everyone adored him -- but he simply vanished without a trace before ascending. His name was Yoshou.

Act 1

"How can you be so composed when there's nothing but space outside our windows!" Washu has reconstituted the Masaki house inside _Yagami'_s cargo bay. Sasami brings refreshments to Kiyone on the bridge.

Later, Kiyone tries to call all hands to the bridge, but no one responds. She stomps back to the house, and discovers them all singing karaoke. _Yagami_ is running low on fuel, and they can't afford to buy it. Washu: I thought we had petty cash. "Yeah," says Sasami, pointing at the karaoke stereo, "We spent it on that." Ryoko, accusingly: who bought it? "You did," says Washu. Kiyone: we'll have to earn money as we go.

In a bar, bounty hunter NAGI hears on the news that the conspirators may have stopped on the planet CONCOR. She leaves with KEN-OHKI. "Ryoko, this time you're mine," she swears. "I will never let anybody else catch you."

In a city on the planet Concor, a new bar has opened. Azaka and Kamidake stand outside the front doors, dressed in hats and robes, with painted eyes that transform their lenses into noses. They shove an unwilling passerby into the bar. Tenchi is wearing a moustache and goatee; Nobuyuki is the second waiter. Aeka giggles from behind a fan, introducing herself as the owner. Ryoko, Washu and Mihoshi are hostesses; they ply the customers with drink. Katsuhito's at the bar, and Sasami and Kiyone are washing dishes. She screams at the unfairness.

Act 2

Nagi arrives at the bar, orders one drink (which Grampa mixes with consummate skill, tossing bottles around like a professional), and is then presented with the extortionate bill by Aeka. She storms out, swearing never to visit them again.

Aeka remembers her first trip to a neighboring galaxy, to an oceanside resort -- but why wasn't it perfect? Oh yes; there was a drunken maid on her bed -- Ryoko. And then while boating on the ocean, her yacht was run over by Ryo-Ohki. "Liar!" accuses Ryoko, and relates her version. She was working at a seaside hotel, and the princess lorded it over her, telling her what a privilege it was to serve. But on the ocean, she was happy -- until she was run down by Aeka's yacht.

They all go to bed. Did Mihoshi remember to turn off the gas? What's that sound? BOOM!

GP aircars rush to the bar, and ships proceed to Zone 907. _Yagami_ launches from the world (with its Jupiter-like clouds). When they confirm it was Aeka's group, the local patrol ships follow, and open fire -- and there's Jyurai's fleet ahead. Suddenly, Ken-Ohki materializes behind them. "You cannot escape, Ryoko!" she broadcasts, and fires on the patrol -- then the Jyuraians fire on *her*. Distracted, she can't stop _Yagami's_ escape. "You will pay for this, Ryoko!"

The news reports the "bombing" on planet Concor and upgrades Aeka's group to "terrorists" who exchanged fire with the GP; and Emperor Yoshou has declared them enemies of the space peace. Kiyone comments to Tenchi: it's suspicious that he hasn't appeared in person yet.

Washu sings karaoke about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

17 No Need for Hunger

Promo: (Tenchi) We're heading for planet Jyurai aboard Kiyone's spaceship _Yagami_. _Yagami_ breaks down and we're stalled in the middle of nowhere. Ryoko's gone in Ryo-ohki for groceries but will she return before we starve to death? (Mihoshi) We must trust her, everyone. If we believe, she *will* come back. (Aeka) Get real. It's not a fairy tale. (Tenchi) Next, no need for hunger. (Aeka) It's unquestionably disgraceful.

Act 0

_Yagami_ comes out of FTL, and suffers sudden engine failure. "I'm telling you, Kiyone, you should learn to relax," says Mihoshi as her partner stabs frantically at the controls. "And you should learn to panic!"

Act 1

Washu examines the engines, covered with ice-like crystals. "Let me make this clear to you: I'm a scientist, not a mechanic." Flattery is successful.

While Washu labors on the engine, food stocks run low. Ryoko sneaks into the garden shed and steals carrots for Ryo-Ohki. Later, the others look around it, wonder where the food went -- and sees Ryoko stroll past with a carrot. Okay, so Ryoko will go shopping -- she'll need money. Aeka holds out some bills from her wallet; the pirate grabs the wallet itself. She also grabs Tenchi, but Aeka grabs back. Nobuyuki coughs: "I could come along." That ends the argument: "We're outta here."

Inside the engine, Washu inserts a plug; now she needs some adhesive. Mihoshi hands her a tube -- is this it? There's a jet of flame, then BOOM. Later, she finishes again. Mihoshi pushes a switch. BOOM.

Tenchi tells Aeka to trust Ryoko. On the bridge, Mihoshi is picking petals off a flower: she comes back, she doesn't. "You *are* aware you're the cause of this delay?" Kiyone asks. Mihoshi stands, then passes out.

On a planet, Ryoko is drinking sake at a streetside bar-stall, despite the keeper's misgivings. Ryo-ohki meows at her, but gets fed some sake; she flushes and starts to dance. Passerby stare at the jiggling booth. Later, Ryoko's gambling, and hits the jackpot on #327. The pitboss announces double odds on all slot machines; she continues to win big. Ryo-Ohki meow-chides.

Act 2

On _Yagami_, they're watching a cooking show. Finally they turn it off as too painful, and Sasami wonders: where's Ryoko?

The pirate is digging into a huge meal of steak. She agrees -- this restaurant deserves three stars; she'll try a five-star place next. Ryo-ohki's protests are gagged. Then she digs into a big feast, and when she pulls loose the tape, Ryo-ohki admonishes stridently -- until she's given a big basket of carrots. At a third restaurant, a traditional Japanese sushi place, she digs into a third feast.

Washu fixes the engine a third time. She falls to the deck and rolls over, despite the cheerleading of her shoulder dolls. Nobuyuki frantically digs through the kitchen trash and finds an orange peel; Tenchi tries to preserve his father's dignity. Mihoshi is hallucinating. What's that smell? Grampa has found a single squid, and is grilling it outside -- one bite each.

Ryoko relaxes in a purple bikini on the beach outside a luxury hotel, and room service rolls up. She finally accedes to Ryo-Ohki's chronic entreaties: "Oh, I forgot! Well, they can wait." She checks out, pays the bill with a pile of cash -- and her change is a bare few small coins. Oh no! She bets at the racetrack -- and loses. She strides through the streetlights, depressed, and looks up at a golden tree logo on the side of a large building: the Bank of Jyurai.

In the house, they're all slumped ove around the table. Aeka repeats that they shouldn't have truster her. Tenchi is sure she'll be here soon. Even Sasami is losing faith: she *is* a space pirate, after all.

Ryoko's broken into the safe, and is recognized by the guards from her wanted poster. GP groundcraft approach, and she watches from the roof, one foot on the parapet, a bulging bag of loot on her shoulder. She whistles up Ryo-Ohki, and the guards are stunned by the looming ship. She teleports aboard.

The door to the living room slides open, and Washu reports (from the floor) that repairs are complete. "Let's go, and forget about the traitor," proposes Aeka -- and Ryoko steps in. "Hi guys, I'm back. I would like to thank you for waiting so patiently." Aeka screams at the notion, but is handed a shiny red apple, and she nuzzles it. "Please don't concern yourself with the minor details." Sasami glows at Tenchi. They prepare to feast then -- BOOM! The sack tears and the stacks of bills fall out. Ryoko explains it's okay; Aeka *is* Jyurai, after all. "The money in the Bank of Jyurai is my people's money! Don't you understand anything?" the princess says. As they turn and run once again, Kiyone's criminal despair has reached new depths. "Tenchi, our trust was not rewarded," Sasami says. "That's right," he agrees. And they're still so hungry!

18 No Need for a Ghost

Promo: (Tenchi) We wander into the Sargasso Sea in space and encounter a ghost ship. Sasami disappears when a mysterious girl invites her to the ship. (Mihoshi) W-what shall we do? (Tenchi) We must rescue Sasami. (Mihoshi) You mean, go into that ghost ship? (Tenchi) Of course, where else? (Mihoshi?) Well, good luck. (Kiyone) You're coming with us, Mihoshi! (Mihoshi) Oh noooo! (Tenchi) A friendship is formed between Sasami and the ghost girl. Coming up next is no need for a ghost; a story of the secret time young girls cherish forever. (Kiyone) It's unquestionably sweet.

Abstract: _Yagami_ enters a Sargasso Sea-like asteroid field and loses power. They encounter a derelict cruise liner. Sasami befriends the ghost of a girl her age (she doesn't realize it's a ghost; Ryoko can pass through walls, too) and travels to the ship. The others follow to rescue her, though Washu is distracted by the scientific possibilities.

Act 0

Asteroid field. Y. Wreckage. M dozes, K yawning: shift off in just two hours. Clock flips to 00:00, alert, engines flare out. Wake M; just fixed it. Yells at her: told you not take shortcut! "You know you agreed to it," K suspects Sargasso, folklore. Lookf forward: 6 lights, then ship appears.

19 No Need for Runaways

Promo: (Tenchi) Our spaceship _Yagami_ is hijacked while we're having dinner at a drive-in restaurant. (Kiyone) Oh no, come back, my _Yagami_! (Ryoko) Hey you, hold it! (Tenchi) It's a couple of young space gangsters who took the ship. We zoom through space, going after _Yagami_ on the run at top speed; and ahead of us a supernova is blocking our way. Coming up next, it's no need for runaways. The terrifying countdown pierces through space. (Ryoko) It's unquestionably action-packed.

Act 0

_Yagami_ has docked at a small space station, and the group (except for Dad and Grampa) is eating lunch at a beef bowl joint. While Ryoko wolfs down her meal, Aeka daintily proceeds through the courses -- except the main order is slow, because the cook's two assistants, AMARUBE and his girlfriend YURA, haven't returned from their break. When they don't respond to his stentorian summons, the manager peremptorily fires them.

Not that they care; they're off in the docking bay, hijacking _Yagami_, ready to become legends.

Act 1

Stepping out of the restaurant (carrying takeout), the group notices its departure, and leaps into the transformed Ryo-ohki to proceed -- forgetting Aeka, Sasami, and the check.

Ryo-ohki pursues; T is counting on R, because dad and grampa are still on the ship. "A samurai should display no weakness while starving. Checkmate."

_Yagami_ gets the green light to pass through an asteroid field, but Ryoko runs the red -- swiping a space truck, crashing into (impaling) an asteroid, and losing the trail. Mihoshi suggests reporting the incident to the Galaxy Police. "And just who do you think *we* are?" Kiyone yells, shaking her. "The most wanted - criminals - in the entire universe!" Mihoshi cheerfully gasps.

Aboard _Yagami_, the two (not too bright) hijackers toast their success and make future plans. "And thus, our legend begins." Passing through Space Zone 602, they're spotted by a Galaxy Police probe, and a GP patrol soon arrives, advising "Yagami" to stop right now -- or will attack. Wondering how the GP knew of their theft, they opt to run, but soon an entire fleet is trailing. "It's just a regular hijacking. Aren't they kinda overdoing it?" Yura asks.

Act 2

Watching the news (that same blond anchor) aboard Ryo-ohki, they learn _Yagami's_ heading towards Space Zone 528. Amarube and Yura are watching the same telecast and realize why that name sounds so familiar. Customers from the beef bowl place. "We're being mistaken for the most wanted criminals in the universe!" R follows the trail to 528. "Chess is a battle fought peacefully. It cultivates the mind, the spirit, and the soul; and we must alwasy cultivate the soul." In the house, Dad and Grampa are playing chess, oblivious; Dad surprises Grampa (who's been dispensing samurai wisdom) with a checkmate.

Yura pleads for A to do something. "Doesn't this ship have a turbo-booster or something?" Amarube panics, presses controls, and manages to fire a rear ventral gun at the fleet, which returns fire ("these are Most Wanted criminals; show no mercy!"); they start pleading their innocence. This is duly witnessed aboard Ryo-ohki, and Mihoshi cheers their evasions. "I have mixed feelings about this," Kiyone grumbles. "We [sic] rooting for the hijackers?"

"Please help me, mommy!" A sobs over the open channel. "This is pathetic," K sneers.

Ryoko announces Operation Speed-Up Ryo-Ohki, which involves chili peppers from the beef bowl place. "Unfortunately, by using this tactic, Ryo-Ohki will be angry with me for a coupla days." Searing a red trail through space, she overtakes the fleet, draws even with _Yagami_, and shrink-boards it. The ship is heading straight towards a supernova [sic], W notices (and the GP, too), and the fleet reluctantly holds at the edge of its "gravisphere". Kiyone and Ryoko assault the flight deck, where Yura has fainted and Amarube is foaming at the mouth. Tenchi rushes to the living quarters (still toting the take-out) where they're *still* oblivious. "What took you so long there, my son?" To escape the supernova, Washu instructs Kiyone to use its gravity to escape: take a 34-degree course, then go full blast 8.1 seconds later. "Are you insane?" K. "Well, we don't have time to argue!" R at copilot station. "It's not possible!" says the GP fleet commander.

The two hijackers are dumped in an escape pod. Dad and Grampa enjoy their beef bowl (the onions especially), and Tenchi suddenly realizes who they'd forgotten. Back at the restaurant, Sasami and Aeka are washing dishes -- and Aeka keeps dropping them, slippery with detergent. By the manager's calculations, their three hours of effort mean only another 89 hours to go. "Help us, Tenchi! Please, come and rescue us!" S wails.

20 No Need for Swimsuits

Promo: (Washu) Didja hear that? There'll be a swimsuit contest in our next episode! (Aeka) Miss Ryoko, it seems to be a great opportunity for us to prove which one of us is superior, don't you think? (Ryoko) Uh huh, it sure does. This contest will decide who the real winner is. Now I can show off this perfect body of mine. (Aeka) Ha! (Ryoko) Ha ha ha! (Together) [cackle] (Washu) Coming up next is no need for swimsuits. Ooh boy. Well, they can do whatever they want. (Aeka) It's unquestionably beautiful.

Abstract: Moored on a beach resort planet, Washu constructs a camouflage hull for _Yagami_ while the others try to earn money as beach vendors. Ryoko and Aeka are indolent, and Mihoshi incompetent. A swimsuit contest is announced with a large cash prize. Feeling competitive, all four tall women (Ryoko, Aeka, Mihoshi and Kiyone) enter; Mihoshi gets high crowd sympathy for tripping over herself but soldiering on; then Nagi arrives and enters. She wings, but Ryoko steals the prize (and is upset that the notes all bear Aeka's face).

21 No Need for a Checkpoint

Promo: (Kiyone) Ladies and gentlemen, now we can see on our right the checkpoint satellite of Planet Jyurai. No one is allowed to enter into Jyurai's territory without going through immigration procedures on this satellite. Please be advised not to [garble] everyone. (Tenchi) Finally, we are at the gate of Planet Jyurai, only to find the enemy force in control of it looking out for us. Coming up next is no need for a checkpoint. Well, this is gonna be a tough bridge to cross. (Kiyone) It's unquestionably a big hurdle.

(Tenchi is mortified to be dressed as a girl, "Tenk", with a wig.) Washu's devices disguise their DNA and skeletal patterns, and contact lenses their retinal prints. Azaka and Kamidake hypnotize the guards sent to inspect the ship. Everything's fine until Mihoshi forgets to leave behind her GP blaster and ID. They run through interminable corridors and are blocked by woody gates, but receive unexpected help from a chivalrous young Jyuraian nobleman and the station commander, who recognizes Sasami from years ago.

    22 No Need for Knights

Promo: (Aeka) Once upon a time there were two royal knights who fought to protect the emperor of Jyurai. After the final battle, they sealed themselves into a long, long sleep. The legend has it that they will be risen from their sleep to fight once again alongside the true emperor of Jyurai when Jyurai Royal Family is faced with crisis. The names of the two knights are-- (Tenchi) Coming up next, is no need for knights. (Kiyone) It's unquestionably a grand resurrection.

    Act 0

Adm updates council: Emp Y very displeased A made it in. His armad sprd over the entire system.

    Act 1

T and A watch sky: A can't belv they made it this far. "Then you can return to the throne in safety, and the rest of us can go home to Earth" Starts.

K rtn to brd, finds M asleep. On scanner: ship behind. Come underatk. Rest come aboard. G: cluster of stars at 25 deg stbd. K think not: nothing on starmap. A: the sacred place. A wonders: that planet the one where legends say the two knights seled in? She expln to S.

They walk out on suf, find illum walkway down, spiral, into tree. Such grt str - str to shatter stars. Leg has it that when fam in danger, will rise from their sleep. G leads. On our own, not enough to enter the J palace, need help. Enter cavern full of cut stumps. "The helping hands I'm counting on are over there: look." Even Ryoko is spooked, and M is downright scared. Cross rope bridge to a tree, live, lush, normal. S look: there are doors in each of two trees, with the same symbols as on the logs. "Grandfather, tell me: who are you, really?" A asks. G doesn't answer, directs the 2: land on platforms either side of the tree, linked by tangled roots to the doors/cyl in each adj tree.

G puts together fingers: glow rises. A gasps "It is Jyurai's Power!" He zaps at the two cl: lightning betn cyl and tree. Tree emits light. The door on each tree fades away. Wooden figures. Green ligth in pattern in floor. Light pulses rise from the floor. The figures step out slowly, turned human. Shows fades, and two knights standing. "Azaka and Kamidake have been ressurrected", A. Their guardians had been programmed with their personalities of these legenary. They step forward and bow to "Oh our emperor, the King of Jyurai" Everyone gasps.

T looks out from cargo bay windows. R snks up behind, giggling, then stops. Look out at star.

    23 No Need for Karma

Promo: (Tenchi) Legendary warrior Yoshou turns out to be my own Grampa -- but then who is the man dominating the royal palace as Jyurai Emperor, claiming himself to be Yoshou? What happened between him and Grampa in the past? We'll see the missing parts of the puzzle fall into place. It is time for Grampa to face the false emperor at the old royal palace, where it all began eons ago. The two most powerful men in the universe meet again in the final duel. Coming up next, is no need for karma. (Kiyone) It's unquestionably fierce.

    Act 0

Repr of reawkae of knights, and G reveal as Y, pledge alleg.

    Act 1

Asteroid field. "This planet is the place where the J imperial villa used to be," notes A. Y: and a perfect place to hide.

_Yagami_ encounters a planetoid-sized domed artifact, a prior Royal Palace of Jyurai, dips into its atmosphere, and crashes into the canopy one of its massive trees. "These are the ruins of dreams past," Y thinks.

Exploring the ruins, they discover a statue of a man "who looks familiar" (N) "with gentle eyes" (as Sasami puts it) who resembles Tenchi. Facing it, a second statue has been defaced. Aeka identifies the first as the legendary Yoshou ("you sure were handsome, wow!" gushes M), and the other as KAGATO, a man who'd had "the most amazing potential". Kagato had been of noble birth, extraordinarily gifted, both in swordsmanship and academics; but he allowed himself to be corrupted by the Jyurai Power, the mightiest power in the universe, granted by the god, with which Jyurai dominates all galaxies, that denies any elucidation by scientists. He became a prisoner of it, and of his ambition, until Yoshou battled him and won. Kagato vanished into space, his name erased from history; Yoshou himself then departed Jyurai, intending never to return. Aeka and Sasami know nothing of this. Grampa is this Yoshou; and Kagato is the pretender to the throne who has ordered their pursuit.

Night has come to the dome [presumambly it manages the illumination] and Dad, Kiyone, Sasami and Washu are sitting be a fire. Mihoshi arrives with a pot full of carrots (their only remaining food, since Sasami packed extra) and places it on the fire. Owch! Ryo-ohki squirms out of the pot.

Elsewhere, Aeka finds Tenchi sitting beneath a tree, lost in thought, stunned by the revelation of his royal blood. Aeka confesses that she's enjoyed everything of her time on Earth, but always understood that, as First Princess of Jyurai, she would have to return. However, she's merely a member of one of many branch families; it is Tenchi, as a direct descendant, who should succeed to the throne. If so, she could be close to him always. "And the wish I thought was impossible, might come true... forgive me for pouring out my heart," she sobs. Nearby, Ryoko listens.

Elsewhere, Yoshou stands alone, remembering his long-ago combat with Kagato -- and here he is now. "I was certain you would come," he gloats, and teleports closer. "I've waited -- I've waited so long for this moment to meet you again. Of course I wasn't dead; but you knew that." They draw their respective swords -- blue and black -- and attack. "You're still quite good, exactly like the old days," Kagato compliments, "--but *I* am *not* exactly like the old days!" He speaks of the time he spent in the darkness of the universe, training, using the Jyurai power to maintain his youth, dreaming of the moment he'd destroy Yoshou. Yoshou himself has only pity for his old friend. "At the time I slayed you, I killed myself as well. Why must I face you in battle again? Forgive me, Kagato." "Interesting," Kagato notes as Yoshou gathers his powers. "You're planning to finish yourself just as you finished me."

Around the dome, a sudden vertical beam of blue light is noticed by all the parties. Washu identifies it with her virtual console.

Yoshou has fallen, and Kagato still stands. Ryoko is first to arrive and confront him, but he's flush with victory. "Who am I? The mightiest and last of all the Jyurai kings. I *am* the god!" And he zaps her. Aeka and Tenchi arrive, and Tenchi runs to Ryoko. "Watch it, Tenchi; this guy's no one to mess with." Knights Azaka and Kamidake arrive, and Kagato brushes them aside; but Tenchi has gone to Yoshou's side and taken a stick and is standing his ground. "Silly boy," Kagato sneers, then notes his resemblance to the young Yoshou. His ship [_Soujya_ from "Tenchi Muyo!"] arrives, and siphon-beams away first Aeka, then the dark king. "I will be waiting for you at the Jyurai palace," he challenges as the knights futiley fire after him. "--And I wish you luck getting there in one piece." The huge ship vanishes into the clouds. "Treacherous coward!"

While the others attend to the wounded Ryoko or rush to aid Yoshou, Tenchi urges his grandfather to hang on. He passes the inactive sword hilt to his grandson, and introduces it as "Sword Tenchi, the magical sword that transforms Jyurai's power into a blade." He doesn't understand. "Tenchi, you are the only one who can destroy Kagato. Go, Tenchi. It is all up to you now."

    24 No Need for Ryoko

Promo: (Ryoko) Tenchi, you should choose me! Forget Aeka. (Tenchi) What? (Ryoko) Don't go, Tenchi... please... I beg you. (Tenchi) Ryoko... (Ryoko) I don't need anything else. I just -- can't bear the thought of losing you. (Tenchi) Coming up next is no need for Ryoko. (Kiyone) It's unquestionaby true love.

Aboard _Yagami_ (still in the tree), Tenchi sits, contemplating Sword Tenchi and his own self-doubt. He recalls speaking to Washu, outside sickbay where Yoshou lies comatose on a biobed. He denies possessing the power. "You doubt my judgement?" challenges Washu, who'd suspected his ability since they'd first met. "Tenchi, you *do* have a force surpassing that of your grandfather."

In the house, Ryoko lies on a couch, her wound bleeding.

The Jyurai military arrives and targets the old royal palace. Kiyone exits the dome and maneuvers to the root-encrusted underside of the planetoid; but two more cruisers are waiting for them, and open fire. Suddenly Ken-Ohki arrives and easily takes them out.

Later, lurking in the shadow of an asteroid, Nagi and Ken-ohki have come aboard _Yagami_. (The two cabbits cuddle.) They thank Nagi, who's here merely to ensure her promised single combat with Ryoko. She graciously accepts a cup of tea from Sasami.

Later, in sickbay, Tenchi speaks to the comatose Yoshou. "I won't let you down, Grampa." He meets Ryoko in the corridor; she begs him to choose her, forget Aeka, leave now; like a honeymoon in deep space. "Sounds fun," he smiles. "I'd love to go on a trip with you"; but she recognizes this as merely his unassailable tact. "I'm a space pirate, and a powerful one!" she retorts. "I could just steal you away if I wanted too!"; but she breaks down, hugs him, confesses she can't bear the thought of losing him, begs him not to go. He's adamant; he can't forsake Aeka, and Kagato is *his* battle as well. Ryoko relents and offers him a lift to the Palace.

In her bedroom, Ryoko dons her red jumpsuit. Nagi enters, pokes her in the waist with her sword; Ryoko collapses in pain. "What do you think you're doing? With a serious injury like that..." Ryoko's ready for their fight, but Nagi demurs: "I don't take advantage of the wounded." Ryoko leaves, and Nagi silently wishes her luck.

    Act 2

The transformed Ryo-ohki is tethered to _Yagami_; Ryoko, Tenchi, and the two knights stand in the boarding tube for their farewells. Washu assures them that, somehow, they'll handle the main fleet. Seeing herself out, Ken-ohki growls/bristles at Nagi. "Yeah, I know," the space pirate admits.

The fleet waits at Jyurai. In the Palace, Kagato receives the commanding admiral's transmitted report, while Aeka floats alongside the throne in a force bubble. Ryo-ohki arrives at the fourth defensive line, in the seventh satellite area, and comes under massed attack. But then a *second* Ryo-ohki arrives. The crystal hull of the first takes a hit, shatters -- and Ken-ohki is revealed. (Aboard _Yagami_, everyone's happy Nagi opted to help.)

Ryo-ohki arrives at the defensive satellite line, and starts taking hits from the spinning four-gunned spheres. In a rage, Ryoko teleports outside, flies to the sat's hull, teleports inside -- and is attacked by the internal defensive tentacles. Withstanding the electrical assault, she destroys the central power sphere -- and the exploding sat ignites a chain reaction along the line. She teleports back aboard.

Once within the planet's atmosphere, Ryo-ohki comes under attack from hovering spheres. Each fires spikes that unfold into pizza cutter-shaped projectiles. Ryoko is knocked away from the controls, and Kamidake notices her bleeding wound; but Azaka stops him from saying anything. Determined, Ryoko pushes Ryo-ohki through the lines, and finally reaches the palace tree. The ship lands gracelessly, trailing smoke from a single wound. (In the throne room, Kagato senses their arrival.)

Ryoko leaves Tenchi and the knights at the palace entrance. "I hope you know I wasn't planning on helping you rescue that other woman." He smiles: "I owe you one." The knights applaud her: "Not even one thousand knights could match your spirit." The run off, and she collapses, sobbing in pain.

Ryo-ohki leaves orbit undisturbed, and inside, Ryoko sits in a hovering chair, hand to her side. "Well, Ryo-ohki, it seems like it's just you and me again; all alone," she reflects woozily. Ryo-ohki's cabbit-face appears in a crystal. "It's been fun, though. We've had a blast since we fell on the Earth, haven't we?" Ryo-ohki's face appears in one of the floating crystals. "I'm lonely. I sound silly, don't I?" Her hand falls limp. The circle of crystals press in, sounding their concern.

25 No Need for a Showdown

    Promo:

    Act 0

Diversion complete, Ken-ohki easily destroys the pursuing Jyuraian ships.

Entering the palace's immense entry corridor, Tenchi asks why there's no security. The knights explain that the Emperor of Jyurai is never threatened; he wields the greatest power in the universe, and moreover is always protected by knights like themselves. Oh, there's one now! A bearded thug in dark robes steps out of the shadows, and introduces himself as TETTA. The knights order him aside: "This is the rightful crown prince of Jyurai!" "Yeah. So what?" Azaka orders Kamidake ahead with Tenchi, and squares off against Tetta. "And now, rebel scum, you deal with me!"

Above, the admiral orders the fleet moved, and activation of "the magical forcefield satellites". The crew of a control satellite are surprised when Washu's short-range subspace door materializes (_Yagami_ is docked just outside). She calls the command ship: "I've got this station under siege, admiral!" She threatens to unleash her homemade supercomputer virus, which will destroy the battle tactics program of the entire fleet. The admiral orders self-destruct for the station. Surprised, Washu injects the virus, then Kiyone drags her out just before -- boom!

Too late; Washu's virus appears on all the screens of the command ship. The admiral orders all the ships that escaped it to track and destroy the enemy.

In the palace, Azaka fights Tetta, while the other two sprint through endless corridors. Kamidake shields Tenchi from a sudden blast that tears up the floor. A second dark knight, elegant and sharp-featured, steps out; TESSAE. Kamidake rushes him and sends Tenchi ahead. Tessae unleases Jyurai's Needle, an attack that postdates Kamidake's suspension.

Tenchi reaches the throne room doors, pauses, pushes them open. A very long path across the green floor leads to the six-tiered conical throne dais. Aeka calls out to him, and Tenchi notices Kagato beside her.

Nagi evades a huge massed fleet, but takes several hits. Ken-ohki fires a spray of beams that takes out hundreds of ships, then escapes. "See ya," Nagi taunts.

Kagato cordially greets Tenchi, and acknowledges his ancestry, proven by his activation of the sword; Tenchi demands the release of Aeka. "You have nothing to worry about. All you have to do is defeat me, and you can do whatever you want." His facial stripes appear as he draws his dark sword. "So, kill me!" Tenchi ascends the steps, leaps at Kagato -- and bounces off his shield. He tumbles all the way back down.

_Yagami_ is taking hits, and the comatose Yoshou thinks: "Tenchi."

On the throne room floor, Tenchi's swordblade flickers. "You disappoint me, you know," says Kagato, who fires a crescent burst that throws him further back towards the doors.

Neither Azaka nor Kamidake are faring well against their opponents, but their spirits haven't flagged. "What you are missing," they both say, "is the noble spirit that respects chivalry!" Kamidake impales Tetta. "See? You simply didn't deserve to be a Jyuraian knight." He steps away, then falls. Azaka strikes Tessae to no apparent effect, then drops to his knees. Tessae laughs -- then suddenly dies messily. Azaka falls.

Night: _Yagami_ drops from the clouds, takes several hits, crashes. The fleet descends and surrounds them. Their hopes now center on Tenchi.

Kagato teleports closer to the prone Tenchi. "How pathetic. And you a direct descendant of the Jyurai royal family." Tenchi struggles up, asks what he wants. "Well, what do you think I want? I want an end to the direct bloodline of the Jyurai royal family!" He raises his sword for a killing blow; and behind him, a glow erupts. Circlet aglow, Aeka shatters the logs containing her. "You finally invoked Jyurai's Power, eh?" notes Kagato. She apologizes to Tenchi [presumably, had she never come to Earth, he wouldn't have been caught in Kagato's scheme] and fires a green burst that Kagato shrugs off; he knocks her back with a crescent burst. He teleports back to the throne, raises his sword. Tenchi gets up, yells: "You won't harm Aeka!"

Suddenly, the tree surrounding the throne room lights up. Beams of sunlight fall on Tenchi, and Kagato pauses, bewildered. Autumn leaves swirl. "This is the way the Earth looks," Aeka breathes. On _Yagami_, Yoshou thinks: Tenchi is successor to the spirits of both Jyurai and Earth. Sasami shares the vision. It fades.

"Does this mean Jyurai has chosen its own master, then?" Kagato asks, and teleports down. Waves of energy pulse from Tenchi's blade. He adjusts his grip, lunges. Their blades meet, hold, and energy surrounds them. Pause; then separate. Tenchi turns back to Kagato, who sees the shape of young Yoshou superimposed. "Yoshou, looks like I've lost again," he says ruefully, and falls. His sword vanishes, and black smoke swirls out.

Tenchi looks up to Aeka. "You did it, Tenchi," she says, running down the stairs to him, sobbing. Limping and supporting each other, the two knights enter.

26 No Need for a Conclusion

Tenchi's retrospective... And so Kagato, pretender Emperor and King, was vanquished, and he realized why Grampa had refused to take the throne. They were all cleared of all charges, Aeka was able to rejoin royal family, and the news was broadcast across the universe. The media made a big deal of it, but Aeka generously decclined to punish anyone in the Kagato conspiracy, although many resigned. Grampa made a full recovery, and was a hit with the nurses in the hospital. Washu revived the guardians, while the original knights Azaka and Kamidake enjoyed their lives as humans again; Azaka apprenticed himself to video-game master Sasami. Washu was elected honorary president of the Universal Science Academy, and declared she'd use her skills only in the pursuit of peace; a month later she was found to be developing a weapon that would destroy the universe, and was kicked out. Kiyone was finally promoted to Detective-Sergeant, though her new aide couldn't make tea; and Mihoshi, now a chief criminal prevention officer, kept shirking her duties to hang out. As for Ryoko... her whereabouts are still unknown.

Nagi sits in a bar, Ken-ohki snoozing underneath [well, it saves on mooring fees], still searching for Ryoko.

At the palace, Sasami finds Tenchi contemplating the scenery, and she asks him to compare it to Earth. She's upset that he's leaving, and seeks assurance that they'll meet again. Azaka delivers a summons from Aeka. In the audience hall, she tells him her vacation is over for good, and again pleads for him not to leave, to take the throne. Perhaps if he'd been raised in the royal family, he points out; but he believes he's meant to live an ordinary life without much responsibility, like Grampa. Aeka is resigned to her fate, the only life she knows. She thanks him for a wonderful vacation, and will not see him off, but wishes him safety in his journey home. "It was the last time I saw her."

Back on Earth, Ryouh's tree has grown tall, and the Masaki house has been restored. It's spring now, and Tenchi is back in school, his days in space classed merely as an excused absence. Grampa is again tending the Shinto shrine, and Dad's in his architecture office, complaining of the long commute. They still have the karaoke set they bought in space, but haven't used it since. At school, Tenchi greets his friends, but daydreams, distracted. On his way home he passes the apartment once occupied by Kiyone and Mihoshi. At home, the door under the stairs is again a closet, and the hot tub is in an ordinary bathroom. It's all just as before: calm, peaceful, ordinary, free of problems. [So Earth doesn't join the galaxy. Good thing the Masakis have no neighbors.]

On his morning stroll to the bus stop, Tenchi contemplates Ryuoh, and recalls Ryoko. "Tenchi, we are having fun, aren't we? Every day here is like a dream. I hope it's gonna be like this forever." He hears a familiar "meow!" --but it's just an ordinary cat. "It started when I saw Ryo-ohki falling to Earth, but -- it's all over now," he thinks. "The carnival is gone." He hears Ryoko's voice, and turns -- she's there, standing on a rock; but the mirage fades. He turns back, and there she is again; for real. She leaps, somersaults in the air, and embraces him. "I told you I was a space pirate, and a powerful one, and I have come to steal you away..." she whispers. "I'm gonna confront Aeka and win your heart in the fairest of fights. C'mon now, you don't think Aeka's gonna give you up *that* easily, do you?"

On Jyurai, Kamidake barges into Sasami's room, where she and Kamidake are engaged in video combat. "Princess Sasami, we have a situation here!" he blurts. "I found this note in Princess Aeka's room!" Sasami examines it in growing wonderment. Aeka has run away -- but Sasami knows where, and she's going to follow! She dashes out of the room, followed by the flustered knights and guardians.

"I just know they're all coming back here..." says Ryoko, still hugging Tenchi. "I'll tell you something, my Tenchi. Y'know, the carnival comes and goes. If you wait for a while, it'll always come back to you."
